The vessels are lined by plump endothelial cells and are engorged with red blood cells. The intervening stroma shows edema, chronic inflammatory cell infiltrate (predominantly lymphocytes and plasma cells), and areas of granulation tissue. No cytologic atypia or abnormal mitotic activity is seen.
